The women's team of Russia defeated the Indian team in the match of the fourth round of the group stage of the World Team Chess Championship. Competitions are held in Spanish Sitges.
The Russians won the match 3: 1. Aleksandra Goryachkina drew with white pieces with Harika Dronavalli, Polina Shuvalova with black pieces against Marie Ann Gomez , Aleksandra Kosteniuk beat Vaishali Rameshbaba with black pieces, Ekaterina Lagno beat Tanya Sachdeva with white pieces.
In the first round, the Russians beat the Spaniards (4: 0), in the second – the French (3.5: 0.5), in the third – the Azerbaijani (3.5: 0.5). After four rounds, the Russians are in the lead in Group A with 8 points. Following are the national teams of Armenia, India (5 points each), France, Azerbaijan and Spain (2 points each). For a victory in a match, a team receives two points, for a draw – one.
In the final round, which will be held on Wednesday, the Russians will play with the Armenian team. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. The tournament will end on October 2.
The Women's World Team Championship has been held since 2007. The Russians became the winners of the tournament in 2017, when the competition was held in Khanty-Mansiysk.
